Covers to Mega Man #3 Revealed

Archie’s Mega Man isn’t available yet, but things are already beginning to heat up!

A pair of covers has been revealed today, showing the talents of Patrick Spaziante and Ben Bates as Mega Man‘s battle against the Dr. Light‘s stolen Robot Masters continues. Following from the cover of issue #2, Spaziante shows Mega Man preparing to face off against the second terrifying trio of Ice Man, Elec Man, and Fire Man.

The other cover, penciled by Bates, continues the Villain Variant theme with a picture of Fire Man standing tall in his fiery domain.

Check out both covers below. Thanks, Sockie!

A Video History of Mega Man Battle Network

As we noted yesterday, the Mega Man Battle Network series has reached the big one-oh. That’s right, ten years of PETs, NetNavis, Battle Chips, Cross Fusion, Beast Outs, and more fun than should be allowed on the internet for kids under the age of 12.

Today, we are following a little inspiration from Protodude’s celebration of this occasion, and giving you a sort of “video history” of the Mega Man Battle Network series. Or rather, given the Japanese origin of the vast majority of these, “Battle Network Rockman.EXE.”

First up, we have the television commercial for the very first game, which appeared on the Game Boy Advance:

Compared to what would come later, the style seems a little rougher, perhaps more manga-ish somehow, but it was still cool to see the characters animated at this point.

Mega Man Battle Network Turns 10

When I think of Mega Man Battle Network, it still seems like a pretty new series to me. But the original title released in Japan on March 21st, 2001. And as the day has just turned over to the 21st in Japan, that makes Battle Network a whopping 10 years old. This makes me feel unnecessarily old.

Mega Man Battle Network was always a bit different, and attracted a new kind of gaming fan to the world of Mega Man. But it’s also one of the most successful Mega Man series to be released, wielding one of only four Mega Man games ever to sell over a million worldwide (Battle Network 4). The series also has a lot of personal meaning to me. While I’ll always consider classic Mega Man my favorite, Battle Network played a large role towards my ambition of learning Japanese and working on websites like TMMN. Funny enough… I thought it looked awful when it was first shown. I thought the characters looked ridiculous! But the series grew on me in a really big way.

I don’t know what the future holds for Battle Network, especially following the lackluster Operate Shooting Star a couple years back. But I still think it has a lot of potential, even if it technically “ended.” Nevertheless, who knows what the next ten years will bring!

also about making megaman legends 3, read this:

Be Sure to Catch Mega Man Legends Game Club #2 Today!

Last week, Capcom Unity began holding a Mega Man Legends Game Club on Ustream, as Greg from the Mega Man Legends 3 Devroom and Snow went through the first hour of the game.

And though the Devroom may currently be on hiatus following the recent events in Japan, Greg has announced that they will proceed with the second session today, on Friday, March 18th, from 3pm to 4pm PST. You can tune in here, as well as “chime in with tips, pointers, and all the heckling you can muster” through the live chat.

Oh and at last, I found this type of a megaman x manga book?!?!and a megaman movie, and a megaman stop motion?!?!?!?!?!?

Check it out:

Hitoshi Ariga Interview, Gigamix Preview

Comic Book Resources has a pretty lengthy interview with mangaka Hitoshi Ariga right now, talking all about Mega Man Megamix and Gigamix. Ariga goes into detail about how he gives each character their unique personality based on their behavior in the games, and other aspects about the comic series. For example:

Fire Man and Heat Man are great examples of how I go about this. In the game, Heat Man’s attacks are pretty scary, but he spends a surprising amount of time standing still. He doesn’t jump at all, but will produce fire at Mega Man’s position with deadly accuracy. So while he is an intimidating enemy, he has a very cool and calculating side to him. That’s why the Fire Man in my manga turned out to be a pretty calm individual, despite being a fire-type character.

The interview also contains the first look at lettered pages from Gigamix vol. 1, as well as the first sample page from Gigiamix vol. 2. Ariga also spends a bit of time talking about the stories and other elements of the new Gigamix series.

Fans of Hitoshi Ariga and his upcoming Mega Man works should definitely check this one out! Thanks to Matt Moylan for the tip!

Legendary Mega Man Papercraft Models

We’ve looked at papercraft versions of the Blue Bomber here on The Mega Man Network before, including a nifty Powered Up-styled model, some dioramas, and even a simple Servbot.

But as Tabby has brought to our attention, it would seem that the announcement of Mega Man Legends 3 has lit a proverbial fire under the folks at the papercraft blog Cut Score Fold and Glue. Since September of 2010, they have created 20 different models based on the various villains, heroes, and anti-heroes of Mega Man Legends. From the plucky young MegaMan Volnutt himself to Teisel and Tron Bonne (with a Servbot, of course) to a wide variety of Reaverbots and Bonne machinery, there is a lot to make.

You can find most of them by searching through the posts labeled with their “Megaman” tag. And with as many of these as there have been coming out in the past several days, we recommend keeping an eye on the site to see if any more pop up (perhaps young baby Bon will arrive to join his siblings).

One of the coolest parts of these particular papercraft is that the seams and folds really make the models look a lot like the polygonal computer-generated models from the original game. In fact, they look so close, perhaps they were lifted from the game itself!

Hitoshi Ariga and More Respond to Earthquake

Earlier the other day, Hitoshi Ariga updated his blog with the sentiment that in times of great crisis, such as Japan faced last week, everybody is capable of being a hero. Ariga himself was moved with a letter, which he later posted, from a child who gave him thanks, as reading his Rockman Gigamix comic helped lift his spirits in response to the earthquake.

Now, to help other children lift their spirits and keep their minds off the disaster, Ariga started a coloring contest. He has posted line art from book covers of his original Rockman Maniacs series, and people may print them out and color them any way they please. They can also share the pictures any way, including their own blogs or on TwitPic, etc. Ariga will also open a bulletin board for people to upload pics. He will also be giving out prizes for each of the three difficulties presented, which for now includes reprints of special post cards and bookmarks from Megamix and Gigamix, which he will sign if desired. He may also intend to give away some of his own Rockman goods.

Capcom is also doing their part. They are currently putting Street Fighter IV for iPhone on sale, with 100% of the proceeds going to relief efforts in Japan. Unfortunately, Capcom, along with other companies, have had to suspend upcoming events like the Monster Hunter Festa for concerns of safety following the earthquake. However, the 3DS Experience Event in Akihabara appears to still be taking place for the time being. Hopefully it can still go on to provide fun for many people seeking positive things.

And of course, YOU can help too. There are numerous methods to sending relief to Japan, some as simple as just sending a text message from your phone. Every bit helps, and for a country that has given us so much awesome stuff, please give even a little back to them.

Thank you Rock Miyabi, for the notice about Ariga.

Rockman Online Update Yields “Patriot of the Desert” and SD Layer

A new Rockman Online update has gone live on the game’s official blog, and appears to be a message coming to us from the navigator Layer, who is now sporting the same style previously seen on Alia.

As for the actual text, it’s in Korean. And unfortunately, there is no one currently around to work their translation magic, so I’m resorting to Google Translate for the time being, with the hopes that maybe Heat Man can clarify things later.

To Live and Die in 200X: A Mega Man Fan Film

Details are few at the moment, but it appears that a group of filmmakers under the banner of “Gelfbury” are working to create a new Mega Man fan film, and one which provides “a fresh new look at the year 200X, where robot brothers fight at the whim of mad scientists bent on world domination.”

Check out the trailer:

To Live and Die in 200X is slated for a release in April, and will feature music from The Megas. To keep further tabs on the film leading up to its release, you can keep an eye on the short film’s official website.

Thanks to Greg Sinario for the tip!

An Audibly More Realistic Mega Man

You may have seen a video floating around which shows the original Super Mario Bros., but with a new set of modern, “more realistic” sound effects.

And as it turns out, that isn’t the only game to get the new sound treatment. Following is a video compilation of many games, each with its own new set of sound effects, and that of course includes a few clips from Mega Man.

Just be sure not to blink, or you’ll miss them:

The man responsible for these videos, Jake Kaufman, has worked on music and sound effects for a number of titles, including several WayForward releases (such as Shantae: Risky’s Revenge, Batman: The Brave and the Bold: The Videogame, and Contra 4), among other chiptune and arranged soundtracks. To find out more, be sure to visit his page, Big Lion Music.

Let’s Have a Listen to Aero

The Devroom’s latest blog update has a little content that might interest you. Reo Uratani returns to discuss more aspects of the process of voice recording. And this time, we get samples so he may demonstrate a few of the effects they can use. But the samples come in both Japanese AND English. So, this would appear to be the first taste of our Aero’s voice! Granted, all we get is a “Hurry!” and “Men, they’re all the same…”

What do you think of the voice, does it fit? And who do you suppose is behind it?

Free Archie Mega Man Posters for PAX East Attendees (with a Slight Catch)

Remember the Archie Mega Man posters, autographed by artist Patrick Spaziante, which were promised to those who would sign up for a subscription to the upcoming Mega Man comic book? If you don’t, here is a refresher, showing the one our very own Tabby received a few weeks ago.

Now, suppose you aren’t going in for the subscription, but you’d still like to hang this bad-boy from your wall. If that describes your situation, then there is good news! That is, if you’re attending PAX East this weekend.
